Survivaball

New Illustration by Chris Trefz of Survivaball: A Comedic Prank on Corporations to Spread Environmental Awareness.

Survivaball illustration by Chris Trefz
My salute to the Survivaball :)

The Survivaball is a fictional survival suit created by comedians "the yes men", to raise environmental awareness.

The message is that if we don't take care of the environment, then we're all going to need a Survivaball. You can also find lots of funny videos about it on Youtube.

Introduction:

There are few things more amusing than witnessing a clever prank, especially when it serves as a satirical commentary on the actions and behaviors of powerful corporations. One such hilarious endeavor was carried out by the renowned comedic duo, "The Yes Men," who masterfully used their wit and creativity to expose the absurdity of corporate greed. One of their most memorable pranks involved the infamous Survivaball, an inflatable suit that promised a whimsical solution to the impending doom of the apocalypse. Inspired by their audacious stunt, I created an illustration depicting a person donning the Survivaball amidst the aftermath of a city destroyed by the apocalypse, finding humor in the parody and fictional capabilities of this peculiar inflatable suit.

The Yes Men's Prank:

"The Yes Men," comprised of Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno, are notorious for their satirical pranks aimed at corporations and institutions that prioritize profit over the well-being of society and the planet. With a combination of clever impersonation, absurd fictional technologies, and biting humor, they expose the flaws and hypocrisy of corporate culture.

One of their most memorable pranks was the introduction of the Survivaball, a ludicrous inflatable suit that claimed to protect individuals from the disastrous consequences of the apocalypse. The Survivaball became a symbol of corporate absurdity, mocking the tendency of corporations to prioritize profit-making over addressing the pressing issues facing our world.

The Illustration: Survivaball in the Apocalypse:

Inspired by the comedic genius of "The Yes Men," I created an illustration that brings their satirical prank to life. In the artwork, a person wearing the Survivaball stands amid the desolation of a city ravaged by the apocalypse. Flames and debris fill the scene, creating an atmosphere of chaos and destruction.

The Survivaball itself is depicted as an inflatable balloon suit, complete with all the outrageous fictional technologies and abilities proclaimed by "The Yes Men." Its exaggerated design, with oversized features and a comical aesthetic, adds to the whimsy of the illustration.

Finding Humor in Fiction:

As an artist, I found immense joy in embracing the absurdity of the Survivaball concept and translating it into a visual representation. The ability to find humor in the fictional capabilities of the suit allowed me to play with exaggerated proportions, vibrant colors, and surreal elements. Through this illustration, I aimed to capture the essence of "The Yes Men's" prank and celebrate their ingenious comedic approach to activism.

The Significance of the Prank:

While the Survivaball itself may be fictional, the underlying message behind "The Yes Men's" prank is undeniably powerful. By highlighting the disconnect between corporate interests and the urgent global challenges we face, they spark conversations and encourage critical thinking about the role of corporations in shaping our world.

Their prank serves as a reminder that, in the face of daunting issues, humor can be a potent tool for exposing the absurd and provoking change. It demonstrates the importance of challenging the status quo, questioning authority, and promoting accountability.

Conclusion:

"The Yes Men" and their prank involving the Survivaball have left an indelible mark on the world of comedy and activism. Through their innovative approach, they have shed light on the excesses and flaws of corporate culture, making us question the actions of powerful entities.

My illustration, inspired by their audacious prank, seeks to capture the essence of their comedic genius while embracing the absurdity of the Survivaball concept. It serves as a visual tribute to the power of satire in sparking dialogue and encouraging us to reflect on the pressing issues facing our society.

In a world often plagued by seriousness, a touch of humor can be a powerful force for change. "The Yes Men" have reminded us of the importance of laughter, creativity, and boldness in challenging the status quo.

Godzilla vs Sea Serpent

New art of King of the Monsters, Godzilla, the legendary reptilian star of Japanese studio, Toho. Updated 3/30/2023 This illustration depicts a colossal snake that arose from the depths of Lake Michigan and does battle with Godzilla in front of the Chicago skyline. The scene was based on the new composition "Godzilla in Chicago" by Michiru Oshima.  I had free range to choose which of the many versions of Godzilla I used, so I went with the GMK design, from the movie, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. A bit of a mouth full to say, but great flick with awesome creature designs, and an absolutely vicious take on Godzilla. The Sea Serpent was a brand new creature created for the music with no established design. For inspiration, I looked at real-life animals like the anaconda, which spends a lot of its time in the water, the moray eel, and a sunfish for its spikey fins. Work in progress for a new commission I'm working on. Sketch...

Friday the 13th, in October!

New Illustration by Chris Trefz of Jason Voorhees: The Ominous Horror of Friday the 13th in October. Introduction: Friday the 13th, a date etched in the annals of horror history, has long been synonymous with spine-chilling superstitions and dark tales. It's a day where the ordinary can take on an eerie aura, and the ominous seems all too real.  This year, the stars align in the spookiest way possible, as Friday the 13th falls in the eerie month of October. To celebrate this fortuitous alignment of dates, I've created a bone-chilling artwork that pays homage to one of horror's most iconic figures: Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" film series. The Legend of Jason Voorhees: Before delving into the artwork, it's crucial to understand the legacy of Jason Voorhees. Born of the horror genre, Jason is a name that sends shivers down the spine of any self-respecting horror fan. This masked and machete-wielding slasher first appeared in the original "Frid...
