Jason Voorhees - Friday the 13th

New illustration by Chris Trefz of the Hockey Mask-clad, machete-wielding slasher villain, Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th horror movie franchise.

My procession of Halloween-related work continues with Jason Voorhees of the Friday the 13th series, back from the depths of Crystal Lake.

To quote Alice Cooper:

Oh, but he's back
He's the man behind the mask
And he's out of control
He's back!

In this blog article, we dive deep into the chilling world of the Friday the 13th horror movie franchise and explore the iconic character of Jason Voorhees. Join us as we unravel the origins of Jason Voorhees, his terrifying powers, and the fascinating story behind his iconic hockey mask and trusty machete.

The Friday the 13th franchise has become a cornerstone of the horror genre, captivating audiences with its suspenseful storytelling and unforgettable slasher villain. Jason Voorhees, the masked murderer, has left an indelible mark on popular culture, and in this new artwork, my goal was to pay tribute to his sinister presence.

Jason Voorhees made his debut in the original Friday the 13th film released in 1980. Initially portrayed as a young boy who drowned at Camp Crystal Lake due to neglectful counselors, Jason emerged as an unstoppable force seeking vengeance for his tragic demise. Possessing superhuman strength and resilience, Jason wields a machete with deadly precision, leaving a trail of terror in his wake.

One of the most iconic aspects of Jason Voorhees is his distinctive hockey mask, which became his signature look in the third installment of the franchise. Originally, Jason wore a burlap sack over his deformed face. However, the introduction of the hockey mask in Friday the 13th Part III forever cemented its association with the character, becoming an instantly recognizable symbol of horror.

The artwork I've created portrays Jason Voorhees rising up from the depths of Camp Crystal Lake, exuding an ominous presence as he makes his way towards the shoreline, bathed in the eerie glow of a full moon.

When crafting this illustration, I aimed to capture the essence of Jason's menacing nature. His clenched fist portrays raw strength and readiness to strike, while his hockey mask conceals his expression, adding to his enigmatic and inhuman aura. The moonlight casting shadows on his eye holes intensifies the air of mystery surrounding him. Jason's tattered clothes and disfigured, gray skin serve as reminders of his undead existence, giving a glimpse into the darkness that resides within him.

The Friday the 13th franchise has captivated audiences with its suspenseful storytelling and iconic slasher villain. Jason Voorhees has become a horror icon, and this artwork is my homage to his chilling presence and the enduring legacy of the franchise.

Step into the world of Jason Voorhees, where terror knows no bounds, and join me in celebrating this new artwork that pays tribute to the unstoppable force that is Jason Voorhees.

Remember, Camp Crystal Lake is waiting...
