Merry Christmas - 2022

New Illustration by Chris Trefz of a Winter Wonderland: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Introduction:

As the snowflakes fall gently from the darkened sky, I bring you seasons greetings with my latest digital illustration. In the scene above I strove to capture a winter wonderland, where a frozen lake shimmers under the moonlight, embraced by snow-laden evergreens and majestic mountains. Amidst this magical setting, groups of joyous ice skaters gracefully glide across the glistening ice, while Santa and his reindeer soar through the night sky, delivering Christmas cheer. This artwork, a departure from my usual science fiction and horror themes, encapsulates the essence of the holiday season with a touch of my own unique style.

About the Art:

The centerpiece of this picturesque scene is the frozen lake, its glassy surface reflecting the tranquil beauty of the night. The snow-draped evergreens create a serene atmosphere, casting elongated shadows under the moon's soft glow. Towering in the background are majestic snow-capped mountains, reminding us of the grandeur and awe-inspiring power of nature.

Amidst the skaters, their laughter echoing through the crisp air, a mischievous Python playfully slithers across the ice, adorned with a Santa hat and a vibrant red scarf. This whimsical addition adds a touch of humor and surprises viewers, allowing them to appreciate the unexpected in a seemingly traditional scene.

A nod to a dear friend's love for bears manifests in the form of a brown bear wearing a Santa hat and red scarf, quietly observing the festivities from a distance. This subtle inclusion infuses the artwork with personal meaning, a testament to the bonds of friendship and the joy of sharing in the holiday spirit.

Santa and his Reindeer:

As the moon graces the sky, its ethereal glow casts an otherworldly radiance upon the landscape. Silhouetted against this celestial backdrop, Santa and his reindeer embark on their annual journey. Santa's sleigh glides effortlessly through the air, guided by the powerful hooves of his loyal companions. Their passage in front of the moon fills us with a sense of wonder and childlike anticipation, as we eagerly await the gifts and merriment that the holiday season brings.

Wishing You a Merry Christmas:

In a delicate, handwritten script that intertwines with the natural elements of the illustration, the words "Merry Christmas" extend heartfelt greetings to all who gaze upon this wondrous scene. The sentiment captures the essence of the season, reminding us of the importance of love, compassion, and the joy of sharing moments with loved ones.

Conclusion:

As the year draws to a close, this digital illustration transports us to a sentimental winter wonderland, merging tradition with personal flair. It embodies the spirit of Christmas, evoking warm memories and eliciting a sense of awe at the beauty of the world around us. May this artwork serve as a reminder of the importance of embracing joy, love, and togetherness, not only during the holiday season but throughout the year.

As the new year approaches, I extend my warmest wishes for a Happy New Year, filled with endless possibilities, success, and fulfillment. May the magic of this wintry scene stay with you, igniting your creativity, and reminding you to seek beauty in all aspects of life.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!

Godzilla vs Sea Serpent

New art of King of the Monsters, Godzilla, the legendary reptilian star of Japanese studio, Toho. Updated 3/30/2023 This illustration depicts a colossal snake that arose from the depths of Lake Michigan and does battle with Godzilla in front of the Chicago skyline. The scene was based on the new composition "Godzilla in Chicago" by Michiru Oshima.  I had free range to choose which of the many versions of Godzilla I used, so I went with the GMK design, from the movie, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. A bit of a mouth full to say, but great flick with awesome creature designs, and an absolutely vicious take on Godzilla. The Sea Serpent was a brand new creature created for the music with no established design. For inspiration, I looked at real-life animals like the anaconda, which spends a lot of its time in the water, the moray eel, and a sunfish for its spikey fins. Work in progress for a new commission I'm working on. Sketch...

Friday the 13th, in October!

New Illustration by Chris Trefz of Jason Voorhees: The Ominous Horror of Friday the 13th in October. Introduction: Friday the 13th, a date etched in the annals of horror history, has long been synonymous with spine-chilling superstitions and dark tales. It's a day where the ordinary can take on an eerie aura, and the ominous seems all too real.  This year, the stars align in the spookiest way possible, as Friday the 13th falls in the eerie month of October. To celebrate this fortuitous alignment of dates, I've created a bone-chilling artwork that pays homage to one of horror's most iconic figures: Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" film series. The Legend of Jason Voorhees: Before delving into the artwork, it's crucial to understand the legacy of Jason Voorhees. Born of the horror genre, Jason is a name that sends shivers down the spine of any self-respecting horror fan. This masked and machete-wielding slasher first appeared in the original "Frid...
