Introduction:

Step into the realm of prehistoric marvels as we delve into the captivating world of the Megalodon. This colossal creature, known as the "megatooth shark," once ruled the ancient seas, its immense size and ferocity unmatched by any other marine predator. Today, in celebration of National Megalodon Day, I present to you my latest digital artwork, a tribute to this magnificent behemoth of the deep.

Discovering the Megalodon:

The Megalodon existed millions of years ago, during the Paleogene and Neogene periods, and its reign lasted for an astonishing 23 million years. With an estimated length reaching up to 60 feet or more, this apex predator possessed a set of razor-sharp teeth that could reach over 7 inches in length. Its immense power and unparalleled hunting skills made it a formidable force in the ancient oceans.

National Megalodon Day: Celebrating Prehistoric Wonders:

National Megalodon Day, observed on June 15th, invites us to explore and appreciate the incredible history of this prehistoric creature. It serves as a reminder of the remarkable diversity that once thrived in our planet's oceans and the importance of preserving our marine ecosystems today.

On this special day, immerse yourself in the world of the Megalodon and enhance your understanding of these majestic creatures. Consider visiting fossil and dinosaur museums near you, with a special emphasis on renowned institutions like the Aurora Fossil Museum in Aurora, North Carolina. These museums offer a wealth of knowledge and fascinating exhibits that shed light on the Megalodon's existence.

Engage with the Aurora Fossil Museum by liking and following their social media pages. Stay connected to their updates and join the community of Megalodon enthusiasts. Additionally, expand your knowledge by reading books or watching documentaries about the Megalodon. Learn about paleontology, the science behind fossils, and the captivating discoveries that continue to unravel the mysteries of prehistoric life.

If you're in North Carolina or have the opportunity, plan a trip to the Aurora Fossil Museum and experience the thrill of digging into the past at their Fossil Park. You can also support their conservation efforts by signing up to get the AFM license plate.

Inspiration for the Artwork: An Ode to the Ancient Predator:

As an artist and enthusiast of both sharks and ancient creatures, I have always been captivated by the mystique surrounding the Megalodon. With my digital drawing, I sought to capture the sheer awe-inspiring nature of this ancient predator. The artwork depicts the Megalodon with its massive jaws agape, revealing rows of formidable teeth, as it prepares to engulf an unsuspecting diver. This portrayal not only showcases the enormity of the shark but also pays homage to the thrilling B Horror movies that have immortalized this magnificent creature in popular culture.

I also utilized foreshortening techniques to emphasize the Megalodon's immense size. The head dominates the composition, filling the frame with its striking presence, while the mere glimpse of the dorsal and tail fins hints at the staggering length of its body, evoking a sense of both fascination and trepidation.

Conclusion:

As we commemorate National Megalodon Day, let us pay homage to the mighty Megalodon and the awe it inspires. Through art and storytelling, we can keep the spirit of this ancient predator alive and appreciate the remarkable creatures that once roamed our planet's oceans. May our imaginations be ignited, and may we continue to explore the wonders of our natural world, preserving its beauty for future generations to admire.

Godzilla vs Sea Serpent

New art of King of the Monsters, Godzilla, the legendary reptilian star of Japanese studio, Toho. Updated 3/30/2023 This illustration depicts a colossal snake that arose from the depths of Lake Michigan and does battle with Godzilla in front of the Chicago skyline. The scene was based on the new composition "Godzilla in Chicago" by Michiru Oshima.  I had free range to choose which of the many versions of Godzilla I used, so I went with the GMK design, from the movie, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. A bit of a mouth full to say, but great flick with awesome creature designs, and an absolutely vicious take on Godzilla. The Sea Serpent was a brand new creature created for the music with no established design. For inspiration, I looked at real-life animals like the anaconda, which spends a lot of its time in the water, the moray eel, and a sunfish for its spikey fins. Work in progress for a new commission I'm working on. Sketch

Friday the 13th, in October!

New Illustration by Chris Trefz of Jason Voorhees: The Ominous Horror of Friday the 13th in October. Introduction: Friday the 13th, a date etched in the annals of horror history, has long been synonymous with spine-chilling superstitions and dark tales. It's a day where the ordinary can take on an eerie aura, and the ominous seems all too real.  This year, the stars align in the spookiest way possible, as Friday the 13th falls in the eerie month of October. To celebrate this fortuitous alignment of dates, I've created a bone-chilling artwork that pays homage to one of horror's most iconic figures: Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" film series. The Legend of Jason Voorhees: Before delving into the artwork, it's crucial to understand the legacy of Jason Voorhees. Born of the horror genre, Jason is a name that sends shivers down the spine of any self-respecting horror fan. This masked and machete-wielding slasher first appeared in the original "Frid
