World Lizard Day

New Illustration by Chris Trefz Celebrating World Lizard Day: A Colorful Tribute to Chameleons.

Introduction:

World Lizard Day is a special occasion that invites us to appreciate the fascinating and diverse world of lizards. It's a day dedicated to these incredible creatures, each with its unique features and adaptations. To honor this celebration, I've created a vibrant digital illustration of a veiled chameleon, capturing the essence of these remarkable reptiles. Join me as we delve into the origins of World Lizard Day, explore the ways in which it is celebrated, and discover the inspiration behind my chameleon artwork.

The Origins of World Lizard Day:

World Lizard Day was established to highlight the diversity and importance of lizards in our ecosystem. While the exact origins of the day remain unclear, its significance is undeniable. Lizards play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of their respective habitats, from controlling insect populations to serving as a source of food for larger predators. World Lizard Day serves as a reminder of their ecological importance and encourages us to learn more about these fascinating creatures.

Celebrating World Lizard Day:

World Lizard Day is celebrated in various ways by lizard enthusiasts, nature lovers, and conservationists:

  1. Educational Programs: Many zoos, nature centers, and educational institutions organize special programs to teach the public about the diverse world of lizards. These programs often include interactive exhibits, presentations, and hands-on experiences.
  2. Outdoor Explorations: Exploring natural habitats provides an opportunity to observe lizards in their natural environment. Nature walks and guided tours offer a chance to learn about different lizard species and their behaviors.
  3. Lizard-Themed Activities: People of all ages engage in lizard-themed activities such as art projects, games, and puzzles. These activities not only provide entertainment but also promote learning and appreciation for lizards.
  4. Community Engagement: Online platforms, social media, and forums become hubs of information and discussions about lizards. People share their experiences, photographs, and knowledge about various lizard species.

Inspiration Behind the Artwork:

As an artist and lifelong reptile enthusiast, my fascination with lizards has deep roots. From owning a painted turtle as a child to being captivated by dinosaurs, Godzilla, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, my interest in reptiles has been an enduring passion. Even now, I share my home with a bearded dragon and a leopard gecko, who continue to captivate me with their unique behaviors and traits.

For my World Lizard Day illustration, I chose to depict a veiled chameleon. Chameleons embody the marvels of evolution with their color-changing abilities, independently swiveling eyes, and intricate physical adaptations. The illustration aims to capture the beauty and uniqueness of these creatures, showcasing the vibrant colors and intricate details of the veiled chameleon.

In creating this artwork, I wanted to pay homage to the world of lizards that has fascinated me since childhood. The veiled chameleon's ability to adapt to its environment and its striking appearance served as a perfect subject for the illustration. By incorporating my admiration for these creatures into my art, I hope to share my passion and encourage others to appreciate the incredible diversity of the lizard world.

Conclusion:

World Lizard Day invites us to explore the world of lizards, from their ecological significance to their unique and captivating features. Through my veiled chameleon illustration, I hope to capture the spirit of these remarkable reptiles and inspire a deeper appreciation for their beauty and importance. As we celebrate World Lizard Day, let us recognize the incredible role lizards play in our ecosystem and continue to learn, engage, and advocate for their conservation.

Happy World Lizard Day!

Godzilla vs Sea Serpent

New art of King of the Monsters, Godzilla, the legendary reptilian star of Japanese studio, Toho. Updated 3/30/2023 This illustration depicts a colossal snake that arose from the depths of Lake Michigan and does battle with Godzilla in front of the Chicago skyline. The scene was based on the new composition "Godzilla in Chicago" by Michiru Oshima.  I had free range to choose which of the many versions of Godzilla I used, so I went with the GMK design, from the movie, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. A bit of a mouth full to say, but great flick with awesome creature designs, and an absolutely vicious take on Godzilla. The Sea Serpent was a brand new creature created for the music with no established design. For inspiration, I looked at real-life animals like the anaconda, which spends a lot of its time in the water, the moray eel, and a sunfish for its spikey fins. Work in progress for a new commission I'm working on. Sketch...

Friday the 13th, in October!

New Illustration by Chris Trefz of Jason Voorhees: The Ominous Horror of Friday the 13th in October. Introduction: Friday the 13th, a date etched in the annals of horror history, has long been synonymous with spine-chilling superstitions and dark tales. It's a day where the ordinary can take on an eerie aura, and the ominous seems all too real.  This year, the stars align in the spookiest way possible, as Friday the 13th falls in the eerie month of October. To celebrate this fortuitous alignment of dates, I've created a bone-chilling artwork that pays homage to one of horror's most iconic figures: Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" film series. The Legend of Jason Voorhees: Before delving into the artwork, it's crucial to understand the legacy of Jason Voorhees. Born of the horror genre, Jason is a name that sends shivers down the spine of any self-respecting horror fan. This masked and machete-wielding slasher first appeared in the original "Frid...
